摘要: Due to its practical relevance conservation, considerable efforts have been devoted understanding the effects of logging on orangutan (Pongo spp.) population densities. Despite these efforts, consistent patterns yet emerge. We conducted nest surveys and measured forest quality disturbance level at 108 independent locations in 22 distinct sites forests Berau East Kutai regencies Kalimantan, Indonesia. Survey varied substantially density, structure, distance villages, intensity. incorporated site-specific tree composition into our estimates decay rates reduce errors associated with inter-site differences selection. Orangutan densities were uncorrelated altitude, fig or any other ecological measure. Multivariate analyses demonstrated that not significantly affected by intensity (at relatively light levels we report here) nearest village, but positively correlated from village known hunt orangutans. These results indicate provided hunting is absent, lightly moderately degraded retain high conservation value for Widespread incorporation areas management plans populations would increase size could be protected, thereby improve their changes long-term survival.
