摘要: Abstract Antibiotic resistance in bacteria is a serious threat to public health due limited therapeutic options. Bactericidal agents with polypharmacological profiles or targeting bacterial membrane have lower propensity develop resistance. Mitocurcumin (MitoC) novel compound synthesized by triphenyl-phosphonium conjugation curcumin. Here, we demonstrate the antibacterial properties of MitoC that structurally differs markedly from known compounds. shows efficient bactericidal activity against Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, including Mycobacteria, MIC values 1.5–12.5 μM range, but does not affect viability human leukocytes lung normal cell lines. Even at sub-MIC values, displays properties. action involves rapid disruption potential. Scanning electron microscope images treated cells show structural deformations terms shrinking, loss turgidity formation blisters bubbles on their surface. Although increases ROS levels cells, it may be primary cause death as prior treatment anti-oxidant trolox did MIC. This first report represents an excellent alternative for development new generation molecules slow
