摘要: Polymorphisms in the glutathione S-transferase (GST) genes, a superfamily that plays key role carcinogen metabolism, have been associated with an increased susceptibility to several types of cancer. We wished evaluate whether variant allelic forms GST isoenzymes were for brain tumors and age tumor onset. Here, we examined 394 (221 adult 173 pediatric cases consisting 197 astrocytic non-astrocytic tumors) determine frequency polymorphisms GSTM1, GSTT1, GSTP1 genes compared healthy control population. Our data shows varies not only between patients controls, but also different histological subtypes occurring patients. found (i) statistically significant increase functional GSTM1 allele high-grade astrocytomas (p < 0.002), (ii) rare Val114/Val114 (iii) genotype among showing microsatellite instability (MSI) due defects mismatch repair (MMR) proteins = 0.003). results suggest may play by subtype, particularly astrocytomas. Moreover, presence genetic modifier begin define high-risk cancer
