Negotiating a labyrinth: experiences of assessment and diagnostic journey in cognitive impairment and dementia.

摘要: Objectives There has been a global push towards the earlier diagnosis of dementia, but there is little understanding transitions along assessment and diagnostic pathway from perspective people affected by memory problems, cognitive impairment early dementia. This study explores experience for with their family carers. Methods Qualitative interviews 27 26 carers (20 dyads) using four services before after disclosure were conducted. Interview transcripts subject to constant comparative analysis interpretations discussion at regular ‘analysis clinics’. Results Twelve sub-themes identified points on journey. Feelings confusion, uncertainty anxiety over interminable waiting times dominated. Participants often felt without support manage uncertainties, emotions did not know where turn support. Some highly critical systemic process generally positive practice individual professionals. Conclusions Service providers should review carers. They develop that person centred accommodates individualised preferences.
