摘要: Abstract Background and Purpose: To determine the percentage of complete responders resectability rate for patients with locally advanced carcinoma rectum treated by 5-fluorouracil (5-FU) infusional chemotherapy pelvic radiation. Materials Methods: Between October 1992 June 1996, 29 a diagnosis unresectable rectal cancer received preoperative 5 FU continuous intravenous infusion at dose 225 mg/m 2 /day concurrent radiation (median 54 Gy/28 fractions). All were clinical stage T4 on bases organ invasion or tumor fixation. Median time surgical resection was 6 weeks. Results: follow-up group 28 months (range 5–57 months). Six felt to be persistently developed distant metastases did not undergo resection. Of patients, 23 proceeded surgery, 18 resectable cure, 13 abdominoperineal resection, 3 anterior local excision. 4 (13%) had response, 90% clinically downstaged. resected 1 has died his disease, 17 are alive, 15 disease-free. The regimen well tolerated; there only one treatment-related complication, wound dehiscence. Conclusion: combination in management is tolerated provides baseline comparison purposes future combinations newer systemic agents
