摘要: Abstract:  Very little genetic data exist on Haitians, an estimated 1.2 million of whom, not including illegal immigrants, reside in the United States. The absence a population this size reduces discriminatory power criminal and missing-person DNA databases States Caribbean. We present forensic study that provides first set for Haiti. This uses hypervariable segment one (HVS-1) mitochondrial (mtDNA) nucleotide sequences from 291 subjects primarily rural areas northern southern Haiti, where admixture would be minimal. Our results showed African maternal component Haitians had slightly higher West-Central than African-Americans Dominicans, but considerably less Afro-Brazilians. These lay foundation further genetics studies Haitian serve as model mtDNA identification individuals other isolated or communities.
