摘要: The Caribbean was one of the last parts Americas to be settled by humans, but how and when islands were first occupied remains a matter debate. Ancient DNA can help answering these questions, work has been hampered poor preservation. We report genome sequence 1,000-year-old Lucayan Taino individual recovered from site Preacher’s Cave in Bahamas. sequenced her 12.4-fold coverage show that she is genetically most closely related present-day Arawakan speakers northern South America, suggesting ancestors Lucayans originated there. Further, we find no evidence for recent inbreeding or isolation ancient genome, had relatively large effective population size. Finally, native American components some genomes are Taino, demonstrating an element continuity between precontact populations Latino Caribbean.
