The “soy-ization” of Argentina: The dynamics of the “globalized” privatization regime in a peripheral context

摘要: Abstract Based on extensive fieldwork conducted with actors from public, private and associative sectors, we explore the expansion of genetically modified soy in Argentina aim to figure out how neoliberal “globalized privatization regime” unfolded a peripheral location. Our case points at two inherent contradictions such regime's main tenets, namely that it needs weak antitrust policy (thus leading market situation dominated by monopoly transnational companies) hyper-restrictive system intellectual property. We highlight participation groups local regime. The first group is aligned globalized regime agendas, while second involved protest regulatory actions focusing health, environment safety issues related GM complex. To different extent, both share agenda resistance an anti-imperialist imaginary. Both have national development objectives their ideological roots, although conceptions “development” are (industrial vs. protection peasants' life environment). conclude not enough postulate will just expand South as did Northern countries. Rather, combined commercialization science, peripherality creates protest, activism regulation.
