摘要: Purpose To describe qualitative characteristics of drusen in eyes with nonadvanced age-related macular degeneration (AMD) using polarization-sensitive optical coherence tomography (OCT). Design Cross-sectional study. Methods Twenty-five 25 patients early to intermediate (nonadvanced) AMD were imaged OCT volume scans. All individual each B-scan manually delineated by experts certified a reading center and graded for 6 different morphologic based on defined classification scheme, including the presence internal depolarizing structures associated foci. With use custom-made software, central druse was selected used analyze its location, diameter, assess prevalence features relations between them. Results Using scans, 6224 could be identified, their position within retina, characteristics, association any pigmentary alterations. The most common type convex-shaped homogeneous medium reflectivity no contents (55.3% drusen). A total 30.5% exhibited material; 0.3% presented overlying hyperreflective foci, 54.5% foci also depolarizing. Significant correlations found diameter distribution throughout shape, homogeneity reflectivity, ( P Conclusions Polarization-sensitive reveals characteristic types highlighting pathophysiological spectrum AMD.
