摘要: Malaria continues to cause incomprehensible human suffering throughout most of the tropics and subtropics: in sub-Saharan Africa it is estimated that 2 million children die each year as a direct infection with Plasmodium. Vector control malaria chemotherapy were previously effective controlling treating are now largely ineffective due insecticide-resistant mosquitoes drug-resistant parasites. As alternatives these mainstays control, an intensive effort develop subunit vaccines targeted at various stages life has been undertaken. One such vaccine, directed against sexual sporogonic referred transmission-blocking offers hope geographically isolated areas, preventing re-introduction parasite malaria-free zones, blocking spread or vaccine escape mutants, reducing exposure "virulent" strains A series potential candidates have identified genes encoding surface proteins sequenced. candidate, Pfs25, being tested Phase I safety immunogenicity studies. Here use status reviewed.
