Size frequency distributions of β-amyloid (Aβ) deposits: a comparative study of four neurodegenerative disorders.

To determine whether the growth As deposits was similar these disorders, size frequency distributions diffuse ('pre-amyloid'), primitive ('neuritic'), classic ('dense-cored') A s were compared AD, DS, DLB, CBD. All had essentially same shape, i.e., they unimodal positively skewed. Mean deposits, however, varied between disorders. diameters diffuse, primitive, greatest DS CBD, respectively, while smallest on average, recorded DLB. Although shape approximately log-normal, model underestimated smaller overestimated larger all 'power-law' fitted AD. The data suggest: (1) similarities among (2) varies subtype disorder, (3) different factors are involved diffuse/primitive (4) log-normal power-law models do not completely account for distributions.
