摘要: Previous functional imaging studies have shown key roles of the dorsal anterior insula (dAI) and midcingulate cortex (aMCC) in empathy for suffering others. The current study mapped structural covariance networks these regions assessed relationship between individual differences empathic responding 94 females. Individual were through average state measures response to a video task showing others' suffering, questionnaire-based trait concern. Overall, patterns indicated that dAI aMCC are principal hubs within prefrontal, temporolimbic, midline networks. Importantly, participants with high ratings showed increased dAI, but not aMCC, prefrontal limbic brain regions. This was specific could be explained by negative affect ratings. Regarding measures, we observed similar, albeit weaker modulation covariance, confirming robustness our findings. Our analysis, thus, provides novel evidence contribution frontolimbic social emotions beyond affect.
