摘要: Emerging evidence suggests that many metastatic cancers arise from cells of the myeloid/macrophage lineage regardless primary tissue origin. A myeloid origin cancer stands apart origins involving clonal evolution or epithelial–mesenchymal transitions. Evidence is reviewed demonstrating numerous human express multiple properties macrophages including phagocytosis, fusogenicity, and gene/protein expression. It unlikely macrophage expressed in sporadic random mutations epithelial cells, but rather damage to an already existing mesenchymal cell, e.g., a myeloid/macrophage-type cell. Such would naturally embody capacity behaviors cells. The view metastasis as disease will impact future research anti-metastatic therapies.
