We compared desmoplastic (CNS) metastasis. Methods results: Using integrins (ECM receptors), ECM (fibronectin, laminin collagen IV) CD31 vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) for angiogenesis, this study examined immunohistochemically 69 consecutive cases CNS metastases. In contrast to low-level expression tumour-embedded tissue, [fibronectin (71%), γ-1 (79%) IV (92%)] CD31-positive microvascular densities (33 4 vessels/field) were significantly richer stroma, which was present 90% (53 59) carcinomas, 100% (five five) malignant melanomas (two two) sarcomas. Collagen correlated with fibronectin (P = 0.013) (P = 0.034) infiltrative edges (P = 0.005); fibronectin-positive a higher density (P = 0.015). addition, expressed (∼75%) (84%) more frequently than VEGF (23%), presence (P = 0.006). Interestingly, laminin-positive worse prognosticator (P = 0.072). Conclusions: ECM- vascular-rich is important growth, underlies therapeutic strategies targeting stroma.
