摘要: Vermamoeba vermiformis is associated with the biofilm ecology of dental-unit waterlines (DUWLs). This study investigated whether V. able to act as a vector for potentially pathogenic bacteria and so aid their dispersal within DUWL systems. Clinical dental water was initially examined Legionella species by inoculating it onto selective-medium plates. The molecular identity/profile glassy colonies obtained indicated none these isolates were species. During this work bacterial identified non-pigmented Serratia marcescens. As from clinical which had been treated Alpron™, prompted question S. marcescens developed resistance biocide. Exposure Alpron™ that biocide effective, under laboratory conditions, against at up 1 × 10(8) colony forming units/millilitre (cfu/ml). cultured 8 weeks on cells Escherichia coli. Subsequent electron microscopy showed grew equally well E. coli (P = 0.0001). Failure detect presence encysted amoebae suggests unlikely supporting growth newly isolated, nosocomial bacterium.
