A helium atom scattering study of the growth and dynamics of CH4 and C2H6 on Cu(001)

摘要: The growth, structure and dynamics of methane ethane monolayers on Cu(001) have been studied using high resolution helium atom scattering. Specular intensity measurements the growth behavior reveal an island mode for ethane, indicative attractive interatomic interaction. Diffraction show that monolayer forms a hexagonal structure, incommensurate in one direction, with lattice constant 4.18 A, while distance 5.10 A. frustrated translational vibrations perpendicular to surface (S mode) measured inelastic scattering frequencies 6.5 meV 6.8 meV, respectively. In addition, desorption energies were determined be 165 260 both cases independent coverage. These results are compared recent made C2H4 larger alkanes adsorbed Cu(001).
