Intensive Care Nurses’ Knowledge & Practices regarding Infection Control Standard Precautions at a Selected Egyptian Cancer Hospital,

摘要: Critical care nurses are the health professionals who have obligation to protect critically ill patients against infection especially those immune compromised, in order enhance their recovery, prevent deterioration health, and achieve high quality nursing care. Therefore critical should sound knowledge strict adherence control standard precautions. Aim of study: assess nurses' evaluate practice regarding precautions . Research design: A descriptive research design was utilized this study. Sample: sample convenience including 77 ICU recruited current study.  Setting: The study carried out at Intensive Care a selected Cancer Hospital Egypt. Tools data collection: Two tools were developed, tested for clarity feasibility, then used collect pertinent current: a- Structured Interview Questionnaire b-Nurses’ Performance Observational Checklist / utilization Results: revealed that, approximately two thirds (63.6%) studied had unsatisfactory level ( 75%) with mean total performance scores 77.3 + 4.4. Negative significant correlations found between: scores, age; years experience (r = -.323 & r -.325 P < 0.004 respectively); between -.235 =-.291 0.39, 0.010 respectively). However, positive scores; age 0.318 0.794 0.005 0.000 Conclusion: Based on findings study, it can be concluded that inspite having satisfactory precautions, level. Recommendation: updating through continuing in-service educational programs; emphasizing importance following latest evidence-based practices education training observation nurses’ performance/ correction poor by team required; providing programs for  newly joined about regular intervals.
