摘要: Introduction On January 2, 2014, Cyclone Bejisa struck Reunion Island (France). This storm led to major material damages, such as power outages, disturbance of drinking water systems, road closures, and the evacuation residents. In this context, Regional Office French Institute for Public Health Surveillance in Indian Ocean (Cire OI) set up an epidemiological surveillance order describe short-term health effects cyclone. Methods The assessment impact was based mainly on a syndromic system, including activity all emergency departments (EDs) Emergency Medical Service (EMS) island. From these data, several indicators were collected analyzed daily weekly. To complete assessment, medical charts recorded EDs from 2014 through 5, reviewed identify visits directly indirectly related cyclone, determine mechanisms injuries. Results number calls EMS peaked day ED increased markedly over next two days. At same time, significant increase trauma, burns, carbon monoxide poisoning detected EDs. Among 1,748 records reviewed, eight cyclone 208 related. For main injury falls injuries by machinery or tools during clean-up repair works. Due prolonged patients hospitalized: some assure continuity care, others take care exacerbation chronic disease. An leptospirosis cases linked post-cyclone observed weeks after Conclusion Information system allowed authors assess rapidly Island; however, underestimation still possible. near future, lines work will be planned improve assessment.
