摘要: Analysis of reverberation measurements in the Straits Sicily shows high intensity, discrete, scattered returns 10–20dB above background reverberation. These are due to scattering from mud volcanoes. The volcanoes at ranges 15–22km is reasonably consistent over these spatial scales (i.e., kilometers) and temporal several hours; separated by 4years also similar. Statistical characterization indicates that associated with a mud-volcano cluster strongly non-Rayleigh can be characterized single (shape) parameter, roughly independent frequency. statistics, concomitant increase probability false alarm, indicate likely source clutter.
