摘要: Although many biological studies of the zebra mussel, Dreissena polymorpha, have been conducted in lake systems Europe and, more recently, North America, there is little information about life-history characteristics this mollusc river systems. In present study, demography and growth D. polymorpha were studied Rideau River (over a distance ca. 100 km), Ontario, 1990, 1993, 1994. This period coincided with time its discovery (October 1990) rapid population increase (1994) river. During mussels discovered on hull large steel boat but not observed any other substrate. common (1–24 mussels/m2) reefs, locks, wharves, buoys, hulls northern, downstream section near Ottawa, Ontario. 1994, densities increased 100- to 10 000-fold (156–23 000/m2) section, remained rare upstream (0–1/m2).
