摘要: There is increasing evidence that environmental contaminants have the potential to modify epigenome, altering gene and protein expression within key cellular signaling pathways. Potential exposures these toxic can occur through diet, occupation, various anthropogenic sources. This chapter details 11 contaminants/factors including air pollution, metals, pharmaceuticals, cigarette smoke, highlights studies demonstrating epigenetic alterations associated with their exposures. These environmentally induced modifications may targets are currently used clinically for diagnostic or prognostic purposes, thus ultimately be useful applications in field of personalized epigenetics. Where possible, examining effects prenatal early life emphasized, as identifying increase understanding biological mechanisms later health effects. Taken together, there information impact features epigenome play an instrumental role disease progression.
