摘要: AIM--To study the morphology and function of liver in visceral leishmaniasis (Kala-azar). METHODS--Percutaneous biopsy specimens from 18 patients with confirmed were examined under light electron microscopy before after treatment pentovalent antimony. The tissue was also for hepatitis B surface core antigens using immunoperoxidase staining. Liver investigated nine treatment. RESULTS--Specimens showed Kupffer cells macrophages colonised by leishmania parasites 40% cases. A chronic mononuclear cell infiltrate had affected portal tracts lobules. Ballooning degeneration hepatocytes, fibrosis terminal hepatic venules, pericellular common findings. related to Ito transforming fibroblast-like cells. None infection. All biochemical evidence dysfunction improved CONCLUSION--Visceral causes morphological functional disturbance liver. Focal rather than cirrhosis occurs. exact aetiology damage is unclear but may have an immunological basis.
