A 15-year Review (2001-2015) of Surgically-Treated Uterine Fibroids in a Gynecology Unit in Enugu, Southeast, Nigeria: A Descriptive Retrospective Study

摘要: Introduction: Uterine Fibroids remain a major cause of morbidity and mortality among women various age groups. Many treatment options abound. The aim this study was to determine the presentation surgical offered in private gynecology unit, Enugu, Nigeria.  Methodology: A retrospective review surgically managed cases between January 2001 December 2015. Data obtained from outpatient, ward, operating laboratory case records. Analysis data done using SPSS version 20 with descriptive statistics frequency percentage. Chi-square test at 95% confidence interval used for association independent variables given, p-value set <0.05. Results: Three hundred patients presented during period but only 228 records (76%) were adequate analysis. mean 38.05 +/- 7.49 years range 20-60 years. Abdominal pain, heavy bleeding abdominal swelling commonest symptoms descending order. Duration 1-3 67% clients uterine size 32-40 weeks 12% reviewed. significant determinants choice parity, both pvalue <0.001. Conclusion: Late ignorance fear surgery is problem management leiomyoma our environment. Use tourniquet method myomectomy helped minimize blood loss despite huge sizes myomas.
