摘要: Habitat selection is a hierarchical process that may involve dierent patterns depending on the spatial and temporal scales of investigation. We studied habitat by European roe deer (Capreolus capreolus) in very diverse environment Italian eastern Alps, during summer. sampled both coarse-grained variables (topographic variables, types cover) fine-grained (forage components habitat) used available locations along movement trajectories 14 adult equipped with GPS telemetry collars. conventional logistic regression to assess at seasonal home range scale, andconditionallogisticregressiontotakeintoaccountthetemporalaspectofhabitatselection weekly basis. Our results indicate topographic were not significant predictors for summer selection. Roe strongly selected dense canopy cover, probably avoid heat stress warm days. In accordance previous observations, preferred young forest stands dominated pioneer species such as ash (Fraxinus spp.) hazel (Corylus avellana) over climax environments. positively shrubs (in particular Fraxinus spp., Erica herbacea, Rhododendron spp. Vaccinium throughout study period, whereas grasses sedges emerged only scale. was clearly related vegetation phenology, since plants most nutritive phenological stages, i.e., buds, new leaves fruits, newly emergent sedges. Finally, we found stronger more coecients forage scale, indicating matching improve our understanding ecological driving Conversely, cover did change across scales, this variable likely drives similar way entire season.
