摘要: BACKGROUND: Environment and genetics influence the manifestation of recurrent airway obstruction (RAO), but associations specific factors with mild, moderate, severe clinical signs are unknown. HYPOTHESIS: We hypothesized that sire, feed, bedding, time outdoors, sex, age associated manifestations lower disease. ANIMALS: Direct offspring 2 RAO-affected Warmblood stallions (F1S1, n = 172; F1S2, 135); maternal half-siblings F1S1 (mHSS1, 66); an age-matched, randomly chosen control group (CG, 33). METHODS: A standardized questionnaire was used to assess potential risk establish a horse owner assessed respiratory index (HOARSI 1-4, from healthy severe) according RESULTS: More F1S2 horses showed moderate 3 HOARSI 4 combined, 29.6 27.3%, respectively) compared CG mHSS1 (9.1 6.2%, respectively; contingency table overall test, P < .001). Sire, hay feeding, (in decreasing order strength) were more (higher HOARSI), frequent coughing, nasal discharge. CONCLUSIONS AND CLINICAL RELEVANCE: There is genetic predisposition lesser also marked effects feeding on signs, most markedly coughing frequency. In contrast, mild not sire or in our populations.
