摘要: Gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is a newly defined clinical and pathologic entity. This study examines the whole population-based incidence of GIST as well risk stratification schemes. All patients diagnosed in Iceland with gastrointestinal mesenchymal over years 1990-2003 were evaluated an immunohistochemical panel including staining for c-kit. The age-adjusted was calculated. Size, mitotic rate per 50 HPF various other parameters evaluated. Each categorized into 1 4 recently NIH categories. Fifty-seven tumors positive c-kit therefore GIST. annual period 1.1 100,000. median age 65.8 size 4.6 cm. Only 2 35 gastric fall high-risk category while half nongastric (11 22) this category. Eight 57 (14%) metastasized, 7 which nongastric. predictive value malignant behavior 46%. negative low- very-low-risk 100%. Pathologic predictors are size, rate, mucosal disruption, necrosis high cellularity. Nongastric GISTs clearly at much higher than GISTs. estimates 100,000 furthermore supports consensus categories prediction
