New Modes of Internal Governance of Higher Education Institutions: The case of Göteborg University

摘要: Abstract Swedish higher education institutions have been given increased autonomy to organise their internal affairs, raising numerous demands on leadership and governance. Changes are so profound that wanting create an ‘entrepreneurial response’ through a new decision‐making structure must undergo culture revolution, threatening existing power structures. Three organising principles used describe analyse Goteborg University. One conclusion is collegial bodies should simultaneously be redefined, reestablished abolished, depending the issues dealt with. Commissions as deans department heads clear accountable superiors or non‐sub‐optimising boards in balanced structure.
