摘要: Esophageal cancer (EC) accounts for a considerable proportion of carcinomas the upper gastrointestinal tract in population Caspian littoral. The global histologic pattern disease has changed recently. intent this study was to determine incidence EC over past decade Eastern Azerbaijan--a north-western province Iran--on western side littoral and assess alteration histological disease. In retrospective study, all 1792 documented cases registered cancer, surgery, pathology, radiotherapy centers period 9 years (from March 1994 2003) were enrolled study. Data concerning demographic characteristics, risk factors, findings recorded. relative pathological subtypes determined. change rates interaction between main factors tumor histology patients assessed years. average 30-year-old 16.2 (12.7 squamous cell carcinoma [SCC] 1.9 adenocarcinoma [AC]) per 100 000 person-years. Incidence SCC, as well AC, peaked at ages older than 65. Compared women, men had higher incidences AC lower SCC; rate equal women. SCC accounted 12.8% 86.9% cases, respectively.
