摘要: Background  GlutathioneS-transferase P1 (GSTP1), the abundant isoform of glutathione S-transferases (GSTs) in lung epithelium, plays an important role cellular protection against oxidative stress and toxic foreign chemicals. It has been suggested that polymorphisms GSTP1 gene are associated with asthma related phenotypes. As significant interindividual interethnic differences exist distribution xenobiotic-metabolizing enzymes, we have studied Ile105Val polymorphism patients a Turkish sample. Methods  exon 5 was determined 210 (112 extrinsic 108 intrinsic) 265 control individuals without diseases history allergy or atopy, using polymerase chain reaction (PCR)-restriction fragment length (RFLP) techniques. Results  The proportion Val105 homozygotes significantly lower than (3.8% vs 12.1%). odds ratio for all other genotypes 0.29 (95%CL 0.13–0.64, p = 0.01) asthmatics. frequency Val105Val homozygotes (3.7% 3.9%) not different between intrinsic asthmatics. Conclusion  These results suggest association susceptibility to genotype may be protective developing this disease.
