摘要: In order to evaluate the effect of somatostatin in treatment massive upper gastrointestinal bleeding a randomised double blind trial 95 patients has been undertaken during 28 months period. Patients with oesophageal varices have excluded as well diabetes. All were endoscoped within eight hours admission hospital, whereupon source and types stigmata assessed. Forty six patients, chosen at random, given 72 hour infusion somatostatin, while remaining 49 received placebo. The two groups matched for sex, age, bleeding. On day after admission, an additional endoscopy was performed which group 16 placebo found persistent A total five 14 underwent surgery (Fisher's exact test, 2-tail, p = 0.04). Rebleeding occurred group, whom experienced rebleeding completion treatment. four rebled on admission. need blood transfusions mortality rate did not differ significantly between groups.
