摘要: Efforts to achieve sustainability are transforming the norms, rules and values that affect remediation of contaminated environments. This is altering ways in which impacts on total environment. Despite this transformation, few studies have provided systematic insights into diverse norms drive implementation sustainable at sites, no investigated how motivate compliance with these rules. study a analysis rules, motivational embedded processes three sites across Australia, using in-depth interviews conducted 18 participants between 2011 2014, through application Crawford Ostrom's Institutional Grammar Schwartz's value framework. These approaches offered methods for identifying guided participants' actions within sites. The findings identify core set 16 (sanctions) used by implement rules: define position process, provide means incorporating established practices, scope outcomes constitute remediation. revealed focused public interest self-interest influenced also found strong interdependence normative principles operating broader domain environmental management planning. paper concludes discussion of: system (which far exceed those associated ESD); their link, contemporary styles regulatory enforcement; underlying balance public-interest drives involvement
