摘要: Purpose: Paraquat is a contact herbicide which highly toxic to human. Deliberate self-poisoning with paraquat continues be major public health concern in many developing countries. This study aimed evaluate the data on cases of acute poisoning and compare different variables between survivors non-survivors. Methods: In this cross sectional study, medical records all intoxicated patients were reviewed at Taleghani hospital Urmia, Iran, from 2007 2013, retrospectively. Demographics, clinical features laboratory findings evaluated. The compared non-survivors amount ingested, occurrence vomiting after ingestion, time place admission, length stay, leukocytosis, serum creatinine level outcomes. Results: A total 41 mean ± standard deviation patients’ age 31.6±16.9 years. Length stay was 5.75±4.6 days. Most poisonings occurred spring summer. in-hospital fatality rate 46.3%. Statistically significant associations found outcome ingested (P=0.001), (P=0.004), early need intensive cares (P=0.009), leukocytosis levels manifestations hepatic (P<0.001) respiratory failure (P=0.007). Conclusion: Ingestion more than 30 ml, prompt vomiting, cares, multi-organ failures are determinants for fatal poisoning. It may useful educate professionals general population about serious consequences exposure paraquat.
