摘要: The activity of glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, the rate-limiting enzyme hexose monophosphate shunt, was examined in olfactory epithelium, respiratory bulb, and occipital cortex Fisher 344 rats aged 4 24 months. Marked differences this were found compared to nonolfactory tissues. Olfactory epithelium bulb have much greater dehydrogenase than at both ages. Glucose-6-phosphate remains fairly constant between adulthood senescence cortex. However, decreases during same time tissues examined. Previous studies changes with aging shown increases some brain regions, but never that we describe histochemistry revealed intense staining apical layer Bowman's glands along their ducts. Histochemistry showed strongest nerve glomerular layers bulb. functional implications these findings are discussed.
