To whom do national days matter? A comparison of national belonging across generations and ethnic groups in the Netherlands

摘要: This paper studies to what extent participating in days for national commemoration and celebration is associated with feelings of belonging, this comparable across generations ethnic groups. Utilizing data from a survey (N = 4,505), three major the Netherlands are examined. We find that whereas participation Queen's Day belonging all generations, Remembrance holds only generation born between 1945 1955, Liberation after 1955. Moreover, citizens non-Western origin, more strongly than native Dutch or other Western background. These findings highlight importance paying attention potential group differences association belonging.
