摘要: The purpose of this study was to examine the level smoking-related aromatic DNA adducts and oxidative damage in current smokers from a lung cancer case-control African Americans Mexican Americans. In addition, mutagen sensitivity (bleomycin-induced chromatid breaks), marker genetic susceptibility, assessed these patients correlated with damage. Lymphocyte cases age-, sex-, ethnicity-matched controls analyzed for (43 47 controls) 7,8-dihydro-8-oxo-2′-deoxyguanosine (8-oxo-dG) determined 46 48 using 32P-postlabeling. Overall, had significantly (P < 0.05) higher levels 8-oxo-dG (mean±SEM; 6.03±1.16/108 nucleotides 5.82±0.77/105 nucleotides, respectively) compared (2.80±0.36/108 3.65±0.56/105 respectively). differences two biomarkers were especially evident smokers. Both male female corresponding but only men difference statistically significant (P=0.002). Cases who started smoking at earliest age highest 8-oxo-dG. cases, not controls, positively bleomycin-induced breaks (P=0.011). contrast, either or adducts. data suggest that both may be useful predicting risk minority populations. correlation between trend are particularly interesting merit further study.
