摘要: Background: The effect of age and infection on outcome after trauma is unknown. We evaluated the incidence impact that nosocomial (NI) have morbidity mortality. Several risk factors were identified analyzed for correlation with infection. Methods: Prospective data collected patients admitted ≥ 3 days over a 2-year period. Each patient was followed by an infectious disease specialist throughout their hospitalization. Centers Disease Control Prevention guidelines used to diagnose Results: Of 3,254 admitted, 88% < 65 12% years age. Injury Severity Score not significantly different (older vs. younger). Five hundred one (17.4%) younger developed NI higher hospital length stay (LOS), intensive care unit (ICU) LOS, mortality compared noninfected group. One forty-seven (39%) older group also had significant increases in ICU Older infected highest greatest relative demonstrated combination increased NI. Once infected, however, penetrating greater group-specific comparison. Many associated Only chronic obstructive pulmonary elderly independent factor Conclusion: injury. Age matched injury severity, Chronic found be predictor
