Spallation of polycarbonate under laser-driven shocks

摘要: Laser driven shocks have been used to investigate dynamic failure (spallation) of polycarbonate under uniaxial tensile loading at very high strain rate, the order 10\(^{7}\) s\(^{-1}\). First, uninstrumented recovery shots performed, post-test examination fracture damage has carried out, and influences experimental parameters (loading conditions target thickness) analyzed. Then, an attempt model response plane shock made. On one hand, in-situ measurements performed in samples submitted detonation wave a strong explosive, results led content with simple constitutive relations. other piezoelectric laser provided characterization pressure pulse, comparisons measured computed signals confirmed ability describe propagation polycarbonate. Finally, spallation experiments simulated. A spall strength estimated, on basis data, predictive capability tested.
