摘要: The pellicle of Paramecium has three two-dimensionally arrayed systems that occupy separate but closely paralleling planes. All are now distinguishable by their differing immunological properties. This study focused on the two deeper systems. infraciliary lattice lies innermost and labels with centrin-specific antibodies. middle system, striated bands, is specifically labeled a monoclonal antibody we have raised to 110 kDa cortical antigen in P. multimicronucleatum. similar geometric pattern at least species, multimicronucleatum tetraurelia. Centrin-specific structures appear be net-like above species show more interrupted caudatum. cytostomal cord an essentially unbranched extension and, like it, centrin-specific. unique association alveolar sacs which suggest these calcium-storing compartments contribute calcium fluxes required for contraction cord. A structural rather than contractile function favored based solely morphology.
