Explicating perceived barriers to mammography for the USCREEN project: concerns about breast implants, faith violations, and perceived recommendations

摘要: In line with the health belief model, perceived barriers have proven to be a key determinant of intentions screen for breast cancer. The standard measure cancer screening is an 11 item scale developed by Victoria Champion. However, emerge and change over time, Champion's was last revised in 1999. Moreover, original did not address which may more pronounced particular populations, such as congruity action faith. As part Utah Screening Project, sample women 40-74 (N = 341, Mage = 51.19, SD = 8.11) were recruited from four counties 2014 complete survey. results revealed that new barrier items explained 6.4 % screen, above beyond other predictors. addition identified past research, current study several novel including (a) concerns about negative effects implants, (b) conflict faith, (c) perception mammography no longer recommended. are useful researchers interested exploring addressed instrument. also suggest potential belief-based targets channels (e.g., plastic surgery clinics, faith-based interventions) delivering interventions.
