The effect of media presentation on the formation of economic expectations: Some initial evidence

摘要: Abstract This paper provides some initial evidence on the sensitivity of economic expectations to differences in media reporting. It reports results an experiment which 120 undergraduate students were selectively exposed different identical U.S. Department Labor news releases and then asked for their projections concerning future states economy. A total 36 stories used from three sources - The CBS Evening News, Wall Street Journal Washington Post . subject's monetary rewards a function accuracy predictions. authors found that presentation same data can have significant effect expectations, as television presentations resulted significantly less accurate sets regarding short-term unemployment than did presentations.
