摘要: Abstract Following infection of maize seedlings with the smut fungus, Ustilago maydis, a progressive increase in absolute activity acid invertase was detected over 16 day period. Activity declined uninfected same This increased infected tissues correlated low sucrose and high hexose content and, presumably, enzyme serves to provide supply hexoses growing neoplastic host, fungal heterotroph. The major proportion this due soluble, rather than cell wall-bound enzyme. A single soluble component mol. wt 100 000 by gel electrophoresis filtration. also present but these an additional 145 000. latter identical one two components cytoplasmic extracts cultured haploid sporidia U. maydis. second myadis cells (of 300 000) not represented tissues. It is suggested that smutted tissue origin, lesser extent, stimulation host invertase. These conclusions differ markedly from those reported other workers using host-parasite combination.
