The impacts of problem gambling on concerned significant others accessing web-based counselling.

摘要: The 'concerned significant others' (CSOs) of people with problem gambling frequently seek professional support. However, there is surprisingly little research investigating the characteristics or help-seeking behaviour these CSOs, particularly for web-based counselling. aims this study were to describe CSOs accessing counselling service (real time chat) offered by Australian national site, explore most commonly reported CSO impacts using a new brief scale (the Problem Gambling Significant Other Impact Scale: PG-SOIS), and identify factors associated different types impact. sample comprised all 366 over 21 month period. findings revealed that often intimate partners gamblers they females aged under 30 years. All displayed similar profile impact, emotional distress (97.5%) on relationship (95.9%) be endorsed impacts, followed social life (92.1%) finances (91.3%). Impacts employment (83.6%) physical health (77.3%) least endorsed. There few differences in between family members (children, partners, parents, siblings), but friends consistently lowest impact scores. Only prior experience Asian cultural background higher impacts. can serve inform development interventions specifically designed gamblers.
