摘要: Objective Fructooligosacharides and galactooligosacharides soften fecal bolus increase frequency of depositions when added to infant formula. This study aimed determine the effects galactooligosaccharide in pediatric patients with chronic constipation. Methods From 2010 2012, 20 constipated (4-16 years age) attended at a primary healthcare unit were enrolled double-blinded, placebo-controlled crossover trial. Eleven children ingested (1.7 g) for 30 days, followed by 15-day washout period, 30-day period placebo (maltodextrin). Nine maltodextrin days. Constipation symptoms considered as outcomes: bowel movements/week, straining during defecation, stool consistency. Outcome ranked according numerical scale elaborated this study. Data recorded baseline, on days 15 each period. Repeated-measures analysis variance (ANOVA) was used analyze along time. Results At there no significant difference severity between groups (p = 0.45). Galactooligosaccharide ingestion related movement frequency, p < 0.0001; relief defecation straining, decrease consistency, 0.0014, compared ingestion. Patients reported side from galactooligosaccharide. Conclusion effective improving clinical group children.
