摘要: BACKGROUND Activating mutations in the epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) non–small cell lung carcinoma (NSCLC) are associated significantly with responsiveness to EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitors. The objective of this study was investigate suitability cytologic specimens for assessing adenocarcinomas. METHODS Sixty paired histologic and adenocarcinoma were collected. Exons 18 through 21 gene amplified using polymerase chain reaction, mutation status each sample analyzed by pyrosequencing. A comparison between performed. RESULTS The overall concordance rate corresponding 91.7%. No significant difference observed from primary lesions metastatic (P = .63). following parameters correlated most reliable results pyrosequencing method (100% specimens) samples: a DNA concentration >25 ng/μL, content >30 tumor cells, or percentage >30%. CONCLUSIONS In study, routinely prepared sources status. authors concluded that tumors suitable successful assessment Cancer (Cancer Cytopathol) 2013;121:311–9. © 2012 American Society.
