摘要: DNA barcoding of aquatic macroinvertebrates holds much promise as a tool for taxonomic research and providing the reliable identifications needed water quality assessment programs. A prerequisite identification using barcodes is reference library. We gathered 4165 sequences from barcode region mitochondrial cytochrome c oxidase subunit I gene representing 264 nominal 90 provisional species mayflies (Insecta: Ephemeroptera) Canada, Mexico, United States. No shared all can be identified with possible exception some Caenis. Minimum interspecific distances ranged 0.3–24.7% (mean: 12.5%), while average intraspecific divergence was 1.97%. The latter value inflated by presence very high divergences in taxa. In fact, nearly 20% included two or three haplotype clusters showing greater than 5.0% sequence values are 26.7%. Many polyphyletic likely represent complexes. Indeed, many these have numerous synonyms individuals show morphological attributes characteristic synonymized species. light our findings, it imperative that type topotype specimens sequenced to correctly associate concepts determine status currently
