Evaluation of adolescents for polycystic ovary syndrome in an urban population.

摘要: Objective: To assess the quality of diagnostic work-up received by patients with “possible” polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS). Design: A retrospective chart review. Setting: hospital based Pediatric Clinic in New York City. Patients: Sixty female aged 13-19 years, a primary ICD-9 diagnosis ovarian dysfunction (256), menstrual irregularity (626), or hirsutism (704.1) were randomly selected for evaluation. In addition, 18 who assigned same codes at Endocrine assessed. Main Outcome: Rates assessment criteria PCOS and co-morbidities. Results: Twenty-five percent (15/60) evaluated according to Rotterdam Criteria, only 2 common co-morbidities associated PCOS. Of 28 presented two more signs (menstrual plus either obesity, and/or acne), 15 (54%), but 7% assessed co-morbidities. All referred appropriate evaluation 89% study group underwent further complications PCOS. Conclusions: Patients presenting an inner-city pediatric clinic often do not receive complete those are adequately screened known health consequences this condition.
