Enhancement of cold hardiness by acclimation is stage-specific in the non-diapausing pupae of onion maggot Delia antiqua (Diptera: Anthomyiidae)

摘要: When puparia of the onion maggot Delia antiqua were preexposed to 5°C for 5 days starting at different time points after pupariation, a large increase in survival exposure -20°C was observed only when pre-exposure initiated 3-6 pupariation. The cold hardiness not associated with trehalose content puparia. supercooling point naturally decreased from -18 -27°C first three and did have an additional effect. Thus, factors responsible enhancement by acclima- tion other than should be sought. period responsiveness acclimation coincided soon head evagination, which corresponds "pupation" lepidopteran insects. appear physiologi- cally flexible short able adapt their physiology contemporary environment.
