摘要: Primary varicella-zoster virus (VZV) infection causes varicella (chickenpox) and the establishment of a lifelong latent in ganglionic neurons. VZV reactivates about one-third infected individuals to cause herpes zoster, often accompanied by neurological complications. The restricted host range and, until recently, lack suitable vitro models have seriously hampered molecular studies latency. Nevertheless, recent technological advances facilitated series exciting that resulted discovery latency-associated transcript (VLT) provide novel insights into our understanding latency factors may initiate reactivation. Deducing function(s) VLT mechanisms involved should now be considered priority improve govern In this review, we summarize implications discoveries field from both perspective roadmap for future studies.
