miRNA Nomenclature: A View Incorporating Genetic Origins, Biosynthetic Pathways, and Sequence Variants

摘要: High-throughput sequencing of miRNAs has revealed the diversity and variability mature functional short noncoding RNAs, including their genomic origins, biogenesis pathways, sequence variability, newly identified products such as miRNA-offset RNAs (moRs). Here we review known cases alternative miRNA-like RNA fragments propose a revised definition to encompass this diversity. We then nomenclature guidelines for extend conventions align with those protein-coding genes established by international consortia. Finally, suggest system full complexity variations (i.e., isomiRs) in analysis small experiments.
