摘要: INTRODUCTION As the cases in this volume vividly illustrate, human conflict with wildlife is a significant – and growing conservation problem around world. The risk of damage to crops, livestock lives provides incentives for rural residents kill reduce quantity quality habitat on private communal lands. Recognition among conservationists that cost conserving large sometimes dangerous animals often borne disproportionately by farmers others living closest has spawned strategies imbalance. One popular response compensate costs damage. By spreading economic burden moderating financial risks people who coexist wildlife, hope negative consequences human–wildlife conflict. Few systematic efforts have been made evaluate efficacy these programmes or best way implement manage schemes endangered species (Sillero-Zubiri Laurenson 2001). In chapter, we build our recent study (Nyhus et al . 2003) which asked whether compensation really help humans. We surveyed 23 international experts mammal learn about common pitfalls associated running programme resources managers need succeed. Here, also draw additional published studies reviews explore role resolving conflicts between wildlife.
